Our Projects

  • Cemetery Documentation

MCGS invites volunteers to help document and make available to researchers the graves and funeral urns in every cemetery and columbarium in Martin County. MCGS membership is not a requirement.

    Essential Tasks

    • Photographing each grave headstone or urn identification and uploading those photographs to BillionGraves. (This requires a smart phone and BillionGraves app)
    • Photography assistance
    • Transcribing information on uploaded photos so they can be made available to the public. (Until a photo is transcribed, it is not public. Anyone can transcribe photos from home on their computers or an internet-connected device.)

To volunteer, email mcgsfl@gmail.com and put Cemetery Documentation as your subject line.

Information collected from our first cemetery project is here.

  • Family History Books Surname Index

MCGS members are invited to help build the index of surnames from family history books in the Genealogy Room at the Blake Library. Work takes place at the library.

For more information and to volunteer, email mcgsfl@gmail.com and put Family History Books Surname Index as the subject line.

Access the current index on RootsWeb.
