DNA in the Forensics World

How often we deal with DNA and how we collect it. The process we follow to get results. What a CSI actually does. How the “CSI effect” complicates the job in the real world.

In 2016, Rebecca graduated from Keiser University, PortSaint Lucie Campus with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Investigations. She has been employed at Martin County Sheriff Office for 9 years as a CSI and Latent Print Examiner. In 2019 she became a Certified Crime Scene Analyst and in 2022 she became a Certified Latent Print Examiner, both through the International Association for Identification. She is

also a graduate of the National Latent Print Examiner Academy in Hattiesburg Mississippi. She is a member of the Florida Emergency Mortuary Operations Response System (FEMORS). In 2022, she was elected as the Region 4 Director of the Florida

Division International Association for Identification. She is also on the Keiser University Advisory Board and in 2024, she received the Keiser University Advisory Board Member Award.

of records available on the site. Learn how to search by location and in individual collections on Ancestry so you can find all the records your ancestor may be mentioned in.

Annette Burke Lyttle, CG^® owns Heritage Detective, LLC, providing professional genealogical services in research, education, and writing. She speaks on a variety of genealogical topics at the international, national, state, and local levels and loves helping people uncover and share their family stories. Annette is a course coordinator for the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy and the British Institute. She is a published writer whose research interests include Quaker ancestors and ancestral migrations in the US. She is past president of the Association of Professional Genealogists and editor of The Florida Genealogist.

How to Preserve and Display Historical Documents and Artifacts

Speaker: Duncan Hurd, The Gilt Complex, LLC

Documents and artifacts need to be stored and framed properly so that they do not degrade over time. In this informative and entertaining presentation, you will learn about appropriate conservation techniques for different mediums, as well as different framing methods that showcase documents, memorabilia and artifacts in their best light. The presentation will feature multiple examples.

Duncan Hurd grew up on St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. He has a BA in economics, an MBA in international business, and a PhD in leadership.

His retail career began at Bloomingdale’s in New York City when he filled in one Christmas season as a manufacturer’s representative. From there he moved on to Assistant Buyer, Store Manager, District Manager, Director of Operations and Vice President in the home furnishings and specialty retail industries. With his wife Pam, Duncan currently owns three custom frame shops – The Gilt Complex in Stuart and Modern Edge Frameworks in Stuart and Tradition.

Duncan also has extensive leadership experience with multiple non-profits in a volunteer capacity. He currently serves as the Board Chair of the MartinArts Foundation.
